Neta was born on March 27, 1951, in Anadarko to Frances McKinney and Edith Taylor. She graduated from Classen High School in 1969 in Oklahoma City. During her senior year, she began working for Mountain Bell and continued her career with the company after relocating to Phoenix, remaining through several mergers over the next 32 years until her retirement. Following her retirement, Neta worked for BAX Global for another 10 years before retiring again to care for her husband.
On January 20, 1971, Neta was united in holy matrimony to Issac Matthews Jr. Together they built a loving home and faithfully honored their vows for 44 years while raising their family.
Neta dedicated much of her life to service and community involvement. Alongside her husband, she volunteered as a business manager for the Pop Warner Little Scholars football organization and gave her time to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and The Salvation Army. She enjoyed bowling both recreationally and semi-professionally and loved visiting casinos throughout the Valley. Among her many talents and hobbies, Neta especially loved sewing and crocheting.
Above all else, Neta cherished her family. She found great joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren, dedicating her life to those she loved and to the many friends whose lives she touched.
Neta Matthews is survived by her beloved sons, David C. Matthews (wife Ava) and Issac Matthews III (wife Adriana). She also leaves to cherish her memory: brothers & sisters Rowena Johnson, Steven Taylor, Lawanda Wilson, Julia Horton, Jeffery Collins, Cornell Washington, Conrad Washington, and Kehia Akamien; grandchildren De’Vante Matthews, Tianna Matthews, Miranda Hayes, Quintine Matthews, Issac Matthews IV, Ariana Matthews, Brayden Matthews, and A’Ryah Clark; and greatgrandchildren Christopher Matthews, Marley Matthews, and Johzir Matthews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Issac Matthews Jr.; father, Frances McKinney; her mother, Edith Taylor; and her sisters, Gwendalyn Tyson, Lenora Dorn, and Dianna “Dee Dee” Collins-Davis; grandchild, Benjamin Matthews.
Neta’s love, strength, and devotion to family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
