Abuelita! I remember that  she always used to take care of me when I was little while my parents worked. She would always be in the kitchen making something. Her arroz con leche was one of my favorites and she would sing the arroz con leche song when she gave it to me. Also, "La India Maria" would always be on in the living room so it ended up being my favorite show as a kid. I loved it so much that I named our first cat Filimon.

My fond memory was the first time I met Elpidia. She let me know that I was marrying into a large family and to never expect to leave any of the celebrations or gatherings early. I thank her so much. Over the years I learned patience and the meaning of family unity. May she rest in peace.

De la Sra. Elpidia tengo dos recuerdos. Hace como 37 anos me cuido tres de mis hijos con tal que fuera a un retiro. Y mi nina la mas chica tenia 5 anos y me decia que lloraba mucho por mi. Y la ultima ves que la vi hace unos dos anos. Le dije Dona Elpidia y me contesto, yo no soy Dona Elpidia.

Gracias por haber conocido a Sra. Elpidia. Convivimos en muchas actividades de retiros. En la cocina cuando la llevaba algun mandado cuando le enviaba a Jose el dinero. Osea, al correo aprendi mucho de ella se lo agradesco mucho. La vi hasta sus ultimo dias.

Nunca que quejo siempre, desia yo nomas causando molestias y de ayi hicimos un diagolo. Tengo tantas viviensias. Ojala un dia suene con ella. La bamos a extranar pero ella esta en mejor lugar. Tenemos una Estrella mas en el cielo.

Como me gustaba cuando mi Tia Elpidia llegaba a visitarnos en Mexico. Lo primero que hacia era decirnos que estabamos muy flacos y comenzaba a hacernos licuados con polvo de chocolate que ella llevaba de Estados Unidos. Que Delicia!

Recuerdo que cuando iba mi Tia para Mexico. Nos asia que nos banarnos todos los dias y nosotros estabamos impuestos a banarnos cada 8 dias para honrar agua por supuesto. Mi Tia era un poco reganona, pero a la vez muy Buena persona. Que Dios la tenga en su Santa Gloria y las vamos a extranar mucho.

My favorite memory with my Abuelita is when she came to stay at my dad's house. AJ and I were still in bed at 12pm. She opened the door and yelled "Lazy Ladies" and started busting up. She couldn't stop laughing. It was hilarious!

I have so many memories of my Abuelita, but one of my favorites is when we were walking to Church and we needed to cross the street. I was so scared to cross that I started crying and stopped in the middle of the street, & Abuelita left me there! I swore I almost died, but I knew deep down she wouldn't let anything happen to me. She taught me how to be brave. I'll miss her forever.

Yo conoci a Elpidia en la cocina de la iglesia y estubimos ella y yo Evangelizacion en los retiros grupos de jovenes. Desayunos nos llevamos muy bien algunas veces caminabamos juntas en providas por la Whittier Blvd y regresabamos de la Iglesia de donde saliamos de San Bruno.

I have so many memories of my Abuelita. But my favorite is when she came home and she cooked me fat from the meat. And everyone kept saying it's bad but we didn't care, she still cooked it for me.

I remember going with my mother, Dolores (Jara) Martínez, to visit my Tío Angel and Tía Elpidia years ago. The kitchen had brand new ceramic tile counters. Tía Elpidia told us that she had been instructed on how to install the tile and she had done it.

Years later, when I was trying to decide whether to take on a DIY task of installing ceramic tile floors, I remembered how Tía Elpidia had done the counters by herself. She did a great job and I could do the same!

Our family has wonderful memories of my Tíos; memories of visits to their house and their visits to my parent’s house. Thank you for the great memories! I miss you!


I am a friend of her daughter Yolanda. I remembered the time when Yolanda offered me some avocados from her tree in the front yard. Her mother, a small woman, came out to help me carrying a very long metal rod to get the avocados. The rod was very long and heavy, but she wanted to make sure I got the good ones on the very top. She was so adorable and sweet. When I think of that time, it makes me smile.
