I just by mere chance in googling Pico Rivera, learned about Ray's passing. I worked with Ray in Pico Rivera City Hall when I was the City Clerk (2008-2012). Needless to say and I am sure that others have commented how special Ray really was. He was a gentle giant and had such a keen ability to stay calm even in the most turbulent and chaotic times. I am saddened by his passing and rejoice in having known such a great man and hard working professional. I know it is way after the fact, but it is never too late to pay one's respects to a charismatic and good guy!

May you rest in peace Ray! It was nice knowing you.

I was Yulissa’s third grade teacher at Valencia. Ray was a very supportive parent.  He  raised a beautiful family that blessed our community.  He will be missed!

I met Ray in 1998 when I was just 17 and we connected instantly after I told him ( And showed him pictures)  of my  125lb weight loss.  He  later told me that he hired me for the Summer program ( CPOP) because we both shared the same struggle with our weight. We totally understood each other and we eventually would become  friends later as I got older. 

Ray and I would meet up again 6-years later at the El Altacor off Washington blvd & Norwalk just to catch up on what we both have been doing over the years. 

I remember bumping into Ray one afternoon in 2006 as he was walking towards the parking lot and we chatted for a bit, he told me how he really enjoyed the City's 9/80 schedule where they had ever other Friday off,  it allowed him to spend  more time with his family. 

Ray was smart and very confident/humble.

One time Ray and I were talking about politics and told me his ACTUAL opinions about certain Council Members and it would make me laugh. 

Once we were talking about when the City of Irwindale elected him Mayor, he was only 25-years at the time and for some reason Ray did Not think that was a true accomplishment (Back then Irwindale had a population of just 1,700 people) and I believe that was the reason ...LOL 

Think about what we were doing  25 , AND Ray was making decisions that would affect City Government, Super impressive to me!! 

When I told my parents the news of Ray's passing they were sad :( 


Ray was a good Man, and as I look back he's a person that I have Humanitarian  Respect for,  which in my opinion, is the highest level of respect a person can receive. 

If Ray's wife and two daughters are reading this, you're Father lived for you girls, you 3 girls were the missing piece he needed.

I was fortunate to meet Raymond years ago in the 1980s at the Latino College Leadership Institute LCLI which he attended while he was at the university. Ten students were assigned to a facilitator at LCLI, I was the lucky one to get Ray. Raymond was a natural leader, articulate, compassionate, and he possessed a strong vision for what he wanted for his community. Although my role as a facilitator was to guide and support, I was fortunate to be inspired and gain so much from these young stars! 

Years later, we reconnected in Pico Rivera...Raymond was hired by the City of Pico Rivera, and I was a principal in the El Rancho Unified School District!! We were overjoyed to be able to reconnect, and I was never more proud of him. Through the years we would run into each other at community meetings, and Ray would update me on his family, his amazing accomplishments, new projects, and city events or activities which could benefit my school. 

 I'm absolutely sadden to hear Ray has left this world. My sincerest condolences to his family. Yet somehow I want to believe the Lord needed a smart, compassionate young leader...and the generous Ray volunteered. God bless you Mijo..
