Alvin Junior was born on January 12, 1968 to Alvin McCarthy and Gloria Alleman McCarthy in Pierre Part, Louisiana. He was the youngest child and only son welcomed home by his father, mother, three older sisters, and large extended family. From birth, Alvin suffered from congenital rubella syndrome (CRS), a condition caused by being exposed to the rubella virus in utero, which left him deaf, blind, and with cognitive deficits. An unwavering faith in God and devotion to Our Lady’s intercession on his behalf, instilled in the family through their mother, along with the exceptional care and love given to him throughout his life are attributed to Alvin exceeding the life expectancy given to him by medical staff at the time of his birth. Alvin Junior celebrated his 54th birthday two weeks ago.
Adamant that Alvin would receive an education despite his disabilities, his mother spent many years driving Binky to and from Baton Rouge daily for him to attend a specialized school program which accommodated the needs for the deaf and blind at Walnut Hills Elementary School. He was eventually able to be bused daily from Pierre Part to the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge where he was enrolled in classes for the Deaf-Blind. Throughout his schooling, Alvin was blessed with many wonderful teachers and support staff who became life-long friends of the family. Each of his three sisters have enjoyed a career in education due largely to the influence of having Binky in their lives.
Little Alvin was pre-deceased by his father, Alvin McCarthy, Sr. and his mother, Gloria Alleman McCarthy; his paternal grandparents, John McCarthy and Isabelle Fournerette McCarthy; his maternal grandparents, Horace Alleman and Bertha Blanchard Alleman; his brother-in-law, Gary Holland; and his great nephew, Ren Michael Albarado.
Within his immediate family, he is survived and will be profoundly missed by his loving sisters: Cynthia McCarthy Holland (Gary), Annette McCarthy Richie (Randy), Jennifer McCarthy Giambrone (John); his nephews and nieces: Kelli Holland Burt (Mark), Denise Holland Charlet (Anthony), Ashley Richie Major, Matthew Richie (Laiken), Donnie Albarado (Kim), Jake Albarado (Carlin); his great nephews and nieces: Cadin and Brielle Burt, Allen, Ashlyn, and Karleigh Charlet, Owen and Lucas Major, Charlie Mosby, Brayden, Harrison, and Stella Albarado. His large extended family consists of many uncles, aunts, and cousins who also loved him dearly and will miss him.
Alvin Junior never met a Christmas tree he did not want to sit next to/under. He never turned down a present to unwrap - especially after Thanksgiving in the lead up to Christmas, Christmas day, or on his birthday. He never held a flashlight, hand-held radio, or flashing noisemaking laser gun he didn’t like. If you were fortunate to sit next to him at a gathering, you soon learned his way of greeting you in the form of the soft touch of his hand to your knee/thigh.
Those who were fortunate enough to have met him were gifted with being in the presence of pure Godly soul. What a wonderful gift we were all given……
His family takes great comfort in knowing that Binky is once again in the most loving arms of his mother and father, gazing on the face of God in his new heavenly home no longer bound by any restrictions to an earthly body.
Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home in Pierre Part on Friday, January 28, 2022 from 8:30 until 10:45 am with a funeral mass to follow at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Pierre Part at 11:00 am.
