In the little time that I have met Josephine I have such deep respect and love for her. She wasn’t just another resident in the place I work at. She was one of my favorite residents.She was a very caring woman who always was kind to everyone. She was concerned for people and liked to help. Working at an assisted living facility is hard because you get used to seeing people & seeing their faces everyday. Especially people like Josephine, who have a positive attitude all the time and are always happy. She was always making me laugh and was so intelligent and creative. Each morning I would come in to work I would get her in the dining room, when she was finishing up breakfast and told her to come with me to do some activities. She never said “no” which always made me happy that she participated in everything. She was always smiling and got up really fast and would say “I’m going wherever your going sweetie.” Josephine always appreciated everything I did even if it was coming to get her. She always called me “pretty girl” to which I always replied “just like you.” I treated her how I would want my grandmother to be treated and was very saddened to see her go. I would go see her everyday before that even if it meant to just touch her hand. I am glad to see her not suffering anymore. May she rest in peace. 🕊️❤️

Whenever I think of the days, years hanging out on 9th street with the guys, Frank and Jo were always included in those thoughts. More so Josephine, naturally, she was the one that was home our backstop, keeping me and Frankie out of mischief. Calling us in to have lunch, patching up our bumps and bruises, making sure I called home to say I was staying for dinner, going to the beach, the block parties and much, much more. How do you characterize that? Easy, my second family. When I heard the sad news memories like these popped into my mind. She will be forever remembered by me with love and respect.

While it's impossible not mourn what an enormous loss this is to our great family,  I take solace in the fact that you lived an incredible life surrounded by a family that absolutely loved and adored you.  From an only child to a mother of 3, grandmother of 9, and great grandmother of 23, you leave behind a legacy that was perfectly curated for 93-plus years.  To know you is to love you.  When anyone in our family said "Nana" everyone knew who we were referring to.  I look back fondly on the many summers and Easter vacations spent at your house, your warm embrace when you would wake us up for school when you were in NY, our Scrabble games, how much you loved my dimples :), dancing with you at family parties, how much you loved Poppy, how you would bite your fist when you were angry, how much you loved Tiffany and our children, your teachings about God, and how could I forget, your grave warnings about Y2K.  I will sorely miss hearing you say "I love you more," smelling a letter from you before it was delivered, the laugh we would share when I'd call you and say "it's your favorite grandson not named Danny," and you would respond, "Frank Scott," and your clever one-liners.  I particularly got a kick out "she thinks she's hot shit, but she's really cold diarrhea," or when we would play Scrabble and you would say, "this board is so tight, you can't even fit a fart through it."  I could go on and on.

I want thank you for preparing us for this day.   A constant refrain from you was "when I die, I want everyone to be happy because they know where I will be."  Nana, I have no doubt where you are.  I hope it's as wonderful as you imagined.  Just remember, this is your second chance at a first date with Poppy, maybe this time you can share your ice cream with him.  I have no doubt he will say he doesn't want any and give you a side grin.

I will love and cherish you forever and do my part to make sure your memory lives on.  Rest easy.

May she rest in peace with her angels.  Even though I haven't seen her in years, I still talk about her and how fond I was of her and her family.  Her memory will be in my heart forever.

My beautiful Aunt Josephine, the strikingly gorgeous Sofia Loren look alike (at least in my opinion) who looked fabulous whether she was dressed in a fancy gown, or a housecoat and curlers. Who called me Sweet Judy Blue Eyes, and made sure whenever I went into her house I was fed. Whether it was a piece of fruit or a macaroni dinner she gave to everyone without thinking about it.  My Aunt Josephine, who adored her beautiful children, and loved so fiercely,  her husband, my uncle Frank. Who would bite her fist when she was angry, and wrap you in a hug when she was happy.  Whose legacy is the beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren of her Diane, Denise & Frank.  I see her in all of them.  She will be missed terribly, she’s irreplaceable. But the memories will see us through and we will smile when we talk about her. Rest in peace Aunt Jo and thank you for being you! Thank you for loving us all so fully.  We are forever grateful.

Two of the most unselfish beautiful people who truly exemplified the meaning of love. Your love for your entire family was incredibly special. The both of you are together now. Sometimes the drive to pick up Nana at Aunt Diane‘s and take him to my mom‘s house was brutal. Especially on such little sleep or when I was jet lagged but it was so important to get to spend time with her and see her and often it would be Moms turn to care for her. It’s kind of a long drive and sometimes you could run out of things to talk about with Nana especially if she got on in into those later years. It was harder and harder for her to hear or understand even what I was talking about. So I made a playlist for her. I tried to think of every song that I knew she would like, and I would play them and if she reacted favorably to it, I would bump it up and if she be like “skip this one”, then I would take it off the playlist she seemed to like most of the songs that I picked, but I know I really got some bangers in there if anyone wants the playlist and you have Apple Music just text me and I’ll send it to you, but this is the day I debuted playlist and I think it made both of our lives very easy because we could spend our drive sitting next to each other often even holding hands and listening to the playlist “Standards, 45s  and other non-threatening classics “

Nana must’ve heard this somewhere but she couldn’t wait to tell me about it one day and she said Danny, you remember this “those who talk by the mile and think by the inch should be kicked by the foot“

Look, I don’t want to say I had  the worst life experience but I know that I did have some really rough patches and I always felt I could call Nana. She always had a word of advice or encouragement, some of my favorite things that she said I still repeat all the time when I went the first time to the Sundance film Festival in Park city Utah and I saw mountains for the first time growing up in either Brooklyn or Ft Lauderdale I didn’t see no mountains but standing there and looking at these snow capped mountain majesty that I’ve heard about my entire life was inspiring and breathtaking. We didn’t have FaceTime and I didn’t have a camera on my phone but I had to share this with my family. I called Nana and she said tell me what you’re seeing. when I described the beauty of God‘s artistry to her, she said “visions like this are vitamins that your eyes feed your soul.” to this day, especially in this age of social media sometimes I remember to take a breath and put the phone down and just stare at something and let it nourish me and that is a gift that Nana gave me..

She always said ‘my mind is young even if my body feels old.’ one time she said ‘ I want to run around the room and I almost think I can.’ She still let her mind run.She loved to read and watch things with mysteries like Colombo and True Crime Documentaries. She always sang a tune she liked. Oh! I can hear her rendition of “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” and its precious to my ears mix of hitting the perfect note and wobbling off key in parts but proudly with her eyes closed and a full smile her head bobbing along to her own jam and her fingers conducting herself through the chorus. She always endulged in sweets and tasted the cookie or cake, she always bought the little trinket, and she always kissed the greeting card. I think we had her so long because she kept herself young. We should always be that way. 💋

I am not really sure if there is a person on this Earth that I have said I love you to more than Nana. I can truly say that she got it. I love her. I think that sunk in. I’m not sure I have any questions about the subject either. Nana loved me. I feel good about that. This should maybe feel sadder but if Nana loved you I’m sure you feel the same. She wasn’t shy about saying it. She had a lot of love to give.

These Snapchat filters always surprise me so I can only imagine what they felt like for Nana to see with all of the inventions and innovations she had witnessed in her lifetime. I love these because you can really hear her laugh. That was the same laugh that I heard one night when she was driving me to college with Poppy. He was sleeping in the bed and her and I were up and watching The Naked Gun. A part came on that was a little risqué (ask me later about it) and I think the shock of seeing something dirty even in a silly comedy with me in the room made her crack up
laughing and the awkwardness of seeing something filthy but funny with my Nana in the room and the nervousness of not waking of Poppy was the funniest thing that ever happened to me. Like picture when you and your best friend or sibling cannot laugh or you’ll get in trouble but times it by 4 because we knew if Poppy woke up to us laughing and then saw the silliness on TV we would both get yelled at hahaha. Love that laugh.

I took Nana for her xmas present to a drag show. As Christian as she was in practice she always led with an open heart. I saw her grow and change in the years I knew her and was close to her. She was the first to know about my step dad of the “they can’t knows” that led to a landslide of loving acceptance. That she paved the way and opened the door to. She knew through loving examples of family members and of course me what a gay person was like and but would she like a drag show?!

She was so excited and when we took her there she said”You know this isn’t my first time at a drag show?” 

I said “ No?!  When?

she said “Uncle Joey took me in 1947”

My jaw hit the floor. She continued “ They didn’t act funny like this doing comedy but they were all beautiful “

I got her to put on someone’s glasses probably Pam. This was early morning at a Pancake place.

We drove around on ECV biles through Magic   Kingdom,Animal Kingdom (ask my mom about the bird poo for a LOL) we went to Epcot, Hollywood Studios and the next day Universal.  She always knew how to tap into her inner child and find joy.

Nana,

I consider myself very lucky to have had such a loving grandmother.  So many amazing memories throughout the years with you and Poppy.   You truly were the rock of this family and we all are blessed to have had you play such an important role.  The legacy you and Poppy leave behind is nothing short of remarkable.  I am relieved that you are at peace and now reunited with him.  Your love for each other was very special;  a bond that was unbreakable.  I am so grateful for this memory above; all four of our children spending a quiet November afternoon with you at Aunt Diane and Uncle Artie’s house- Priceless!!!  I am sad that I will no longer have a chance to spend a quiet afternoon with you but I will honor your wishes and not mourn your loss.  Instead, I look forward to celebrating the beautiful life you lived with the beautiful family you and Poppy created. I love you Nana.  😘

Although Poppy wasn’t by your side he was with us this night. You told me you would tickle my back until I found a special girl to take your job.  Jenna still hasn’t tickled my back,  but she gave me 2 daughters who do! Love you Nana 😘

To my sweet mother in law, thank you always treating me like one of your daughters. You and Poppy have left a legacy to be very proud of . You will be missed by all of us. Till we meet again

 You were an amazing person with a huge heart and dear love for God and her family. You will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate to have known you. I will forever cherish the memories. Whether it was awaiting your arrival on one of your many trips to NY as a kid , because you and poppy would make sure to make EVERYTHING, us visiting every Easter in Florida, or simply the beautiful cards we would we get from you on the special occasions, signed with love “Nana and Poppy”- of course sealed with your red lipstick and a spray(or two ) of your perfume to remind us of you! You loved your grandchildren with all your heart and showed us how important family is, but there was no one you love more than your husband. I know Poppy was waiting for you ( you made sure of that) and I’m happy you’re at peace, but I will bet anything he had a clever remark for you when he finally saw you!
