My father-in-law was the best.  I had the opportunity to tell him thank you for everything he had ever done for us and that I and the kids loved him.  He heard and responded; I also had the opportunity to pray with him.

We are so very sorry to hear about Stewart.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am very sorry Stewart is gone. I have many great memories of my grandmother Millie and Stewart watching after my brother Pat and I as kids. They both made great fun out of everything. As an adult my wife Kristi and I would occasionally spend some time with him and he as usual made our days full of laughter. We both regret not seeing him more the last few years. I will always remember the smiles he brought to everyone's faces and his thoughtfulness. We will miss him forever.

I'm Christine Bower's baby-brother. We rented his NW 1st Ave home for a few years back in the 1980's.  His garden and rabbits are what I recall most. He took such good care of everything and was quite the gentleman-farmer.  I ended up leaving Miami when I met a Memphis gal and our two-boys here are in college now, so life flows on. His next-door neighbor Millie Huddleston and he were good people.

We met "Mr. Sagraves" in the mid-80s when my Kentucky born husband found his house for rent and we moved in.  Our 2 little kids had all that beautiful land to run around on & explore, climbing trees and watching our landlord work in his garden. He was fond of our kids and helped with easter egg hunts (I still have those photos). He lived in the back house during that time and he would make us the most amazing strawberry pies.  He was a kind, generous and wonderful man.  We wanted to buy the house, but he wasn't ready to sell so we eventually purchased another & moved.  For years afterwards the kids & I would stop there when in the neighborhood to say hello and catch up.  Lots of wonderful memories from that time.  Thanks for posting in the Herald (or I would never have known)- I shared the with other family members and friends who used to visit us back then.  Our deepest condolences to the family.

On 4/29/2011 we lost a great person Stewart G. Sagraves. He was an awesome grandpa, I thank him for everything he's done for me and will remember and love him  forever.
