Consuelo "Connie" De La Cruz

Connie was born on the 5th day of January 1923, in Sulphur, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Estanislao and Delores Quiroz Contreras. She married her late husband, Pete De La Cruz on the 28th of June 1944 and remained by his side for 38 years.

Connie was active in civic, school and church organizations. She was passionate about her Mexican heritage. She organized numerous Mexican Independence Day celebrations and was a member of the Ladies LULAC organization. She was member of the English choir, Damas Guadalupanas, Ladies Altar Society, and the Senior’s Club at Our Lady of Guadalupe church. She was a member of the Woodmen of the World Ladies Organization, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Port Arthur Garden Club.

She is survived by her children Jo Ann Solis and husband John of Port Neches, Pete De La Cruz and wife Shirley of Nederland, Debra Vela of Austin, Lynette Offield and husband Don of Austin, Texas; grandchildren; John Solis, Jr., Stacilyn Solis Peveto Steven Solis, Lauren and Reese Vela, Peter, Danny, Christopher and Luke De La Cruz; Great-grandchildren; Allison Staton, Presleigh, Paityn and Kane Peveto, and Daphne Faith Solis.

Visitation will be Friday, June 4, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:30 PM at Grammier Oberle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 5th at Our Lady Guadalupe Church. The Rev. T.R. Blanco O.S.A. will officiate. Graveside services will be conducted at Greenlawn Cemetery. A celebration of her life will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Hall.

Pall bearers will be her grandsons and Lionel Barbosa, Jesse Noyola Jr. and Chris Peveto.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that contributions in her memory be directed to her beloved Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
