

George had served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a medic and was a member of the Texas “Fighting 36” Division. He received the American Defense Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart Medal. He was married to Nelda Duvall for 63 years and a resident of Port Arthur for the past 66 years. He worked for Gulf Termite Co. for over 30 years then retired from Security Pest Control. He had a passion for coon hunting and especially his hounds.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda; parents; a sister, Laverne Klingensmith; 2 brothers, Tommy Lindsey and Jack Lindsey and a brother-in-law, Bill Duvall.
He is survived by his 2 daughters, Lana Staples and husband George of Fairfax, VA, Sherry Dengler and husband Russell of Orange, TX; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Duvall of Groves, TX; a sister-in-law, Joyce Duvall of Groves, TX; 2 grandsons, Matthew Staples and wife Linda of Fort Collins, CO, Scott Staples and wife Kristine of Centerville, VA; 2 great-grandchildren, Grayson Staples and Josie Staples as well as his wonderful caregivers; Myra Bertrand, Priscilla Bevel and Casey Cooper.
A Gathering of his Family and Friends will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, Port Arthur.
Graveside Services with Military Honors are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the SETX Humane Society, 2050 Spindletop Avenue Beaumont, TX 77705-6222.
