

Gumesindo Jim Solis, 92, of Groves died, Friday July 22, 2022, at home in Groves, TX. He was born on January 13, 1930, to Maria Vallejo Solis and Dionisio Solis in Port Arthur, Texas. Mr. Solis was a 1949 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Port Arthur College. Gumesindo served in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic stationed at Fort Hood in Killeen, TX during the Korean Conflict. On December 29, 1954, he married Henrietta Jimenez. He was formerly employed at the CBS affiliate (KFDM Channel 6) and had his own business, G.J. Solis Television Repair, for many years. Mr. Solis was a member of Immaculate Conception/St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church.
Mr. Solis was preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents, his brothers, Felix, Don, Johnny and Benito, his sisters, Theresa Garcia and Maria S. Burns. He is survived by his sons, Steve (Lisa) Solis of Lake Jackson and James Solis of Owasso, OK; his daughters, Lisa (Jackie) Brown and Laura Solis both of Groves; his brother, Austin Solis (Marjorie) of Port Arthur and his sisters, Anna M. Solis, Henrietta Solis and Victoria (Billy) Melancon of Nederland. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Kristen (John) Hoffpauir, Lindsay (Tyler) Briggs, Alyssa Solis, Anthony (Sydney) Solis, Harrison Shipman, Sarina Shipman and three great grandchildren, Lyla and Clara Briggs, and Mia Hoffpauir.
The family expresses special gratitude to those who provided loving care to Gumesindo in the last few months of his life, Kitty Jenkins and Maria Zamora of Port Arthur and Mattie Keller of Beaumont.
A Rosary will be recited on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 9:30 AM at Immaculate Conception/St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church in Groves, TX, with family receiving friends from 10 AM to 11:30 AM. A Mass of the Resurrection will be immediately following at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Gardens in Port Neches.
