

Hubert was born in Port Arthur on April 21, 1925, to Parilla Maude Dismukes and Hubert Alonzo Swanzy, Sr. He was a resident of Port Arthur for eighty-five years with his wife, Faye. He was a 1943 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and was a World War II Army Veteran and retired as a captain in the Army Reserves. He came home and enrolled at Lamar Junior College and later The University of Texas where he graduated in 1949 with a degree in chemical engineering. While at the University of Texas, he was a member of Omega Chi Epsilon-Honorary Chemical Engineering Society and Tau Beta Pi-Honorary Engineering Society. In 1948 he married Faye McMichael; together they raised a family of five children. The family has since expanded to ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
In 1949, Hubert began a career as a chemical engineer with Texaco where he worked until he retired in 1981. Hubert was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Throughout his life, Hubert spent many hours engaged in the activities of his children. He was involved in Little League and served on the Board of Boy Scout Troop #73.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Faye Swanzy of Port Arthur; sons, Chris Swanzy and his wife, Kathy of Sugarland, Kelly Swanzy and wife Angel of Port Neches, Arlen Swanzy and wife Trudy of Arlington and Keith Swanzy of Port Arthur; daughter, Gale Kercheval and her husband Steve of Houston; ten grandchildren, Shad Swanzy, Michael Swanzy, Eric Swanzy, Christy Wootton, Candice Phoenix, Krystal Gutierrez, Ryan, Kercheval, Andy Kercheval, Alexis Swanzy and Colby Swanzy and ten great grandchildren; nieces, Karen Haynes and her husband Steve and Patricia Sealy; nephew, John DeWitt and wife Stephanie and their daughter, Mallory.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mabel Alice Sealy and her husband John; first grandchild, Kelly Angelica Swanzy; daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Swanzy and sister-in-law, Beverly DeWitt.
A gathering of friends and family will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur with a Rosary to be recited at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A Chapel Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Duc Q. Duong officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
