Jerry Gaspard, born on October 4, 1958, passed away on November 13, 2025, at the age of 67. A lifelong Southeast Texas native and a resident of Kirbyville, Jerry was known for his hard-working nature and the humor that could lift an entire room. He was the life of the party everywhere he went—quick with a joke, a grin, or the kind of story that stayed with you.
Jerry spent more than twenty years working side by side with his father in the inland barge division at Sabine Transportation. Those years working with his dad meant a great deal to him, and he carried what they accomplished together throughout his life. When he wasn’t on the job, he was usually elbow‑deep in an engine or figuring out how to get something running a little better than before. He never lost that spark for anything fast or mechanical, and there was almost always a dog nearby keeping him company while he worked.
Jerry helped people in the ways he knew best—through hard work, shared projects, and a willingness to jump in when something needed to be built, repaired, or figured out. Those moments were where he connected most. His home in Port Arthur and later Kirbyville was shared with the many animals he brought in over the years, and he spent his later life quietly with his wife, surrounded by the nature he loved.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Patricia Gaspard; his mother, Elnora Frances Gaspard; his brothers, Nelson Jr. Gaspard and wife Rhonda, Walter Gaspard and wife Carol, Tommy Gaspard and wife Carol, and Bobby Gaspard and wife Susan; his sister, Donna Gayle Landreth and husband Grady; his children, Joseph Paul Gaspard and wife Lori, Victoria “Tori” Miller and husband Brandon, Valerie Blount, and Michael Lynn Gaspard; his stepchildren, Brandy Patteson, Ashton Pracht and husband Aaron. A nephew Jason Simon and wife Amanda; and his previous wife, Keely Goodwin.
He also leaves behind his grandchildren—Brandon Miller II, Brayden Miller and wife Lexi, Brendan Miller, Joseph Dillon Gaspard, Ethan Gaspard, Azlynn Blount, Annaliese Blount, Alysa Patteson, Kiera Patteson, Nathaniel Patteson, Hayden Pracht, Kennedy Pracht. His great-grandchildren, Bryson Sean Miller and Josie Gaspard. Jerry’s memory will also remain with his large extended family and friends who loved him.
Jerry will be remembered for his sense of humor, his practicality, and the way he showed up in his own authentic way. His absence will be deeply felt, and his memory will live on with all who knew him.
