

Lewis M. Morris, 99, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away peacefully from this life on March 22, 2011, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. Lewis was born in Midway, Texas on December 9, 1911, and was preceded in death by his parents, Edward William Morris and Martha Ella Morris; his wife, Lorraine Morris; daughter, Diane Rogers and husband Jimmy.
Lewis’s career spanned over forty years which included; the positions of Supply Sergeant for the Civilian Conservation Corp. in Crockett, Texas prior to becoming a Game Warden in 1939. He rose to the rank of Captain and served many years in that capacity. In 1957, he became the Area Manager and Wildlife Biologist II Technician of the J.D. Murphee Wildlife Management Area in Port Acres, Texas until he retired in 1977. In all, he worked for the State of Texas for a total of thirty seven years.
Lewis touched the lives of many and was loved and respected by countless friends, associates and family. He was a “doer” and known for his “know how” and industriousness. He loved the outdoors, whether it be carpentry, fishing, hunting, gardening, or just sitting outside in the shade. Lewis was also an avid gunsmith and especially enjoyed cooking big meals for family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Lewis E. Morris and wife Peggy of Beaumont, Texas; daughter, Susan LaRue of Port Arthur, Texas; step-son, Keith Zahar of Crystal Beach, Texas; granddaughters, Lisa Foster and husband Paul of Beaumont, Texas and Cynthia Nichols and husband Preston of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandsons, Reed Rogers of Texarkana, Texas and Criss Rogers and wife Pam of Carthage, Texas along with several great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011, from 4 p.m., until 7 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, March 25, 2011, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
