Melodie Fay "Puff" Sexton, 26, passed away on Father's Day, Sunday, June 19, 2011, in Lake Ivanhoe. She was born at Mid-Jefferson County Hospital May 6, 1985, and resided in Groves most of her life. She graduated from St. Catherine School, PN-G High School (Class of 2003) and Lamar University (2010). She worked very hard to get her Bachelor Degree in Social Work; but her greatest joy came in 2008 when her son Jack Spradley was born. They were inseparable.
Melodie had honed her mothering skills by being a live-in nanny to her twin nieces when they were born in 2003. She never forgot how to play in a park because she was barely bigger than a kid herself. Running, biking, frisbee golf and just sitting at the beach made her happy. Jack would ask her to stop at every park and playground they passed because he knew she would do it for him. She loved the rain, the beach and the lake; but she wouldn't swim in the "dirty" water. It was up to David, Jack's dad, or one of Jack's many relatives to take him in the water. Snapping and sending pictures of Jack and herself in different hats and outfits was something to look forward to every day. Puff preferred texting to talking because she was so shy. Her big blue eyes and gorgeous, long eyelashes were every girl's envy. She will be fondly remembered by all those who knew her; but the void in our lives without her cannot be filled. Sweet dreams, Puff.
Melodie was preceded in death by her brother, Tony, and her grandfathers, Sosthene Brasseaux and Al Sexton. She is survived by her son, Jack Spadley, and his father, David; parents, Craig and Linda Sexton; sister and brother-in-law, Natalie and Dennis Gassen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Toby and Samantha Sexton, and Cody and Rachel Sexton; twin nieces, Alexis and Lauren Gassen; grandmothers, Emily Sexton, and Dorothy Bienvenue; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011, from 5 – 8 p.m. with a Time of Remembrance and Sharing at 7 p.m. in the Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home Chapel, Port Arthur.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 24, 2011, St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Greig officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
For those that wish, in lieu of flowers we've opened up a Melodie Sexton Memorial Fund at Gulf Employees Federal Credit Union located in Groves TX (409.963.1191) account #75630S1. The proceeds from this fund will go entirely toward her son, Jack.
