Ronald “Ronnie” Landry, 75, of Groves, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2025. Ronnie was born on December 17, 1949, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Anthony Landry and Noelie Anne Landry. He was a member of Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church in Port Arthur and a retired dispatcher for Federal Express in Beaumont, where he worked for 36 years.
Ronnie proudly served his country as part of the U. S. Air Force Military Police achieving the rank of E4, and returned from the Vietnam War in March 1971. Serving his country was among Ronnie’s greatest honors, and the deep sense of patriotism he carried remained a guiding force throughout his life. Ronnie had the unique ability to make friends wherever he went. Between his gift of gab, vibrant spirit, and contagious laughter; few, if any, were immune to his charm. Once Ronnie Landry was your friend, he was your friend for life. Ronnie had many interests, but nothing topped spending time with his granddaughter or cooking up a storm in the kitchen. From the minute Chloe was born, the day started and ended with her. He embraced the role of grandfather with open arms, filling it with joy and pride. His visits with Chloe in Virginia Beach were some of the best and brightest times of his life. When Ronnie wasn’t spending time with his family, you could almost always find him in the kitchen. Cooking was one of his greatest joys, and Christmas was his favorite time of year because, for Ronnie, Christmas meant gumbo. Every holiday season, the Landry house would be filled with the rich, comforting aroma of a simmering roux; a tradition he took great pride in. It was just one of the many ways Ronnie celebrated his Cajun roots and shared his love with those around him.
Ronnie also had a passion for traveling and creating memories with his loved ones. One of his favorite recent adventures was a Christmas trip to New Orleans with Rosa and Christopher, soaking in the vibrant culture of the city. He also explored Washington, D.C., and New York City with Rosa and his brother-in-law Ruben, where highlights included standing atop One World Trade Center, visiting Ellis Island, and wandering through the bustling streets of the Big Apple. But of all his travels, his favorite was a cruise to Mexico with his beloved wife; a trip filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments.
Ronnie is survived by his wife Rosa Landry, his two children Christopher Landry of Port Arthur and Heather Landry of Virginia Beach, Virginia, his sister Arlene Degeyter, his granddaughter Chloe of Virginia Beach, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family across Texas, Louisiana and California. Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents Anthony Landry and Noelie Anne Landry of Port Arthur along with his sister Glenda Nobles of Port Arthur.
A visitation of family and friends will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Saint Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Port Arthur, Texas, followed by a Catholic Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
