

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris (Erdmann) Stapleton, five children Jon (Aimee Gagne) Stapleton, Kathy (Bob) Button, Kevin (Cindy) Stapleton, Terry Stapleton and Vanessa Frum, 17 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren.
James was born on January 3, 1934, in Little Valley, NY to the late Joseph and Vashti (Harper) Stapleton. Upon graduating, from Little Valley High School, Jim enlisted in the US Navy where he served on the USS Wisconsin (Whisky), a Iowa-class battleship as a Radar man.
James married Doris Erdmann, August 10, 1957, and raised six children. After retiring they spent many years enjoying both their homes as snowbirds between Florida and New York. In his retirement, Jim was active in his community volunteering his time at the VA Hospital and Gleaners Kitchen.
Jim was a Free Mason, a lifetime member of the First Congressional Church, The American Legion and the USS Wisconsin Association. He has a memorial brick located in the Sampson Memorial Museum in Romulus, N.Y. He was an avid sports fan rooting on the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Braves.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Vashti Stapleton, his eldest son, James Stapleton, daughter-in-law, Amy Stapleton and grandson, Joseph Button.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will be with full military honors at the VA National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida,
