John Charles Goodness Sr.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Sandi Goodness, and by his five children from his marriage to the late Carmela Goodness, who passed away in 2002: Annamarie Schwinger, Joann Lowry, Theresa Freistat, John Charles Goodness Jr., and Robert Goodness. John was a beloved grandfather to ten grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to thirteen. He is also survived by his cherished cat, Olive.

A man of deep faith and unwavering commitment to his community, John was a faithful communicant of St. Lucie Catholic Church for over 30 years. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the prison ministry, a dedicated volunteer with the Bread Ministry, and an usher at the 4 o’clock Mass. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, where he held numerous leadership roles and carried out countless acts of service.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ault during the Korean conflict. After his military service, he worked with the New York Transit Authority, retiring as Superintendent after 28 years of service. In retirement, his commitment to helping others never waned—he built homes through Habitat for Humanity and contributed significantly to the effort to establish a cardiac center in Tanzania.

John will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and dedication to improving the lives of others. He was a man of action and purpose, whose legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the St. Lucie Catholic Church Bread Ministry in John’s memory.

To honor John’s vibrant and joyful spirit, those attending his services are invited to wear colorful Hawaiian shirts in celebration of his life.

A Celebration of life for John will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Aycock Funeral Home, 1504 Southeast Floresta Drive, Port St. Lucie, FL 34983. A Funeral service will occur Friday, May 16, 2025 from 9:30 AM at St Lucie Catholic Church, 280 SW Prima Vista Blvd, Port St. Lucie, FL 34983.
