Port St. Lucie, Florida - Michael S. Wolff “Mikey” of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Zionsville, Indiana, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, January 3, 2019, at his residence in Port St. Lucie surrounded by his family. Mike was born on February 13, 1939, in Martinsville, Indiana, to John L. and Helen (Kennedy) Wolff.
Mike graduated from Martinsville High School, where he was active in several sports. He went on to attend Indiana University where he enrolled in the ROTC and served his country in the Army Reserves. Mike pursued a successful career as a Commercial Real Estate Broker, developer, and investor, while raising a family of five children with his wife, Barbara (and more animals than Mike liked to count) all on their family “BAR-MIK farm” in Zionsville, Indiana.
Mike’s many business accomplishments helped create office parks such as Park Fletcher in Indianapolis. He was instrumental in planning and developing two golf course communities: Prestwick (Indianapolis) and Fox Cliff (Martinsville). He planned and developed Legendary Hills in Martinsville, Indiana, and owned several hundred acres of active farm property in Indiana. He also helped create and operate Peak Management, with his business partner, Ron Tedrow. With the success of Peak Management, Mike moved forward with his crowning achievement: a partnership that developed a new Hampton Inn Hotel on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1996. His vision for this venture was well ahead of others; a short time later, an extensive and successful revitalization of downtown Indianapolis began. Mike greatly enjoyed visiting with the Hampton hotel family, hosting annual employee gatherings at his home in Zionsville to show his appreciation to the many individuals who contributed to the hotel’s success.
During the early years of his semi-retirement, Mike and lovely wife, Barbara, enjoyed boating throughout Florida. They even completed the “Great Circle Tour.” Their love of boating led to many wonderful friendships that will now help Barbara through this time of loss. Mike and Barbara settled on the river of Port St. Lucie, Florida, where they continued boating and gained many great friends. Mike especially enjoyed sporting clay shooting with neighbors. Known as a man with a twinkle in his eye, Mike always looked forward to sharing a good time and perhaps a cocktail with friends and family. All will remember Mike’s generosity in everyday life. He looked to leave a positive and lasting impression on everyone he met.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Barbara Wolff of Port St. Lucie Florida, and Zionsville, Indiana; his daughter, Deborah (Jeff) Lackey of Carmel, Indiana; his son, Charles Train of Zionsville, Indiana; his daughter, Pamela Wolff of Port St. Lucie, Florida; his daughter, Heidi Wolff of Indianapolis, Indiana; and his daughter Kimberly Wolff (Tony Ross) of Lutsen, Minnesota. Mike also was the proud and doting “Grandad” of six grandchildren: Desiree Wolff, Nicholas Lackey, Joshua Lackey,
Michael Lackey, Tessa Train and Libby Train. He leaves behind his brother, JL Wolff, and his wife, Sue, as well as his sister, Judy Paretts and her husband, Jeffrey.
Mike’s family extends a debt of gratitude to Mike’s good friend and the best doctor known to man, Buddy. Thank you for your friendship, Buddy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children. The Hampton Inn in downtown Indianapolis is organizing a Blood Drive in Mike’s honor in February 2019.
