Barbara was born on December 20, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Barbara moved with her three sons to Southern California in 1966. She lived in California for 28 years, then moved to Westbrook, in 1994 to be near her grandchildren.
Barbara relished the era she grew up in. She loved the 1940s; attending concerts and dancing to Glenn Miller and other Big Bands greats. An aficionado of all music, Barbara listened to everything from classical, to jazz to rock and loved it all.
Barbara was a movie buff, enjoying the 40's classics, film noir, and comedy, as well as her favorite TV programs: Mash and The Golden Girls. A voracious reader, Barbara passed her love of language on to her children. She designed beautiful clothing, wrote prose and poetry and created countless pieces of folk art.
One of Barbara's lifelong passions was animal welfare. She took in many, many animals, providing a wonderful home for the dogs and cats she loved. She also donated to numerous animal organizations, most notably Redwings Horse Sanctuary in California.
Of all her accomplishments, it was as a mother and friend that was truly Barbara's greatest. She was charming and extraordinarily fun, easy to laugh and possessed an adventurous spirit. Family was the foremost value in her life and she sought to create a strong family circle to the best of her gifts.
Barbara is survived by her sons: Tim in Westbrook, Maine, Charles in Morro Bay, CA, and David Crellin in Seattle, WA, as well as by her daughter-in-laws, Tina Crellin and Colleen Carey, her grandchildren, Matthew, Sean, Jamie, Ryan and Aidan, and her sister, Shirley Dennis.
