Jim succumbed to his battle with cancer in the early morning hours of Wednesday October 16th. Born and raised in Maine, Jim was forever a Maine kid at heart. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing and bird watching. He loved watching college hockey and college football. He had an affinity for jazz music, classical music, classic rock and roll, american civil war history, crossword puzzles, reading, watching murder mysteries and handcrafting antique guns. He crafted Civil War era long rifles and hand guns; some of which are used today in reenactment events. He lived most of his life in the Pine Tree state, but split time between a summer camp in Maine and a winter home in Florida in his later years.
Jim impacted countless lives during his career as a high school educator, coach and mentor spanning across four decades in communities throughout Maine and Florida. He began his career as a math teacher and football coach at Monmouth Academy in Monmouth, Maine. He moved on to Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine where he wore many hats as a math teacher, athletic director, football coach, rifle team coach, dormitory parent and Winter Carnival officiant. He was both a math teacher and football coach at Skowhegan Area High School in Skowhegan, Maine. Prior to retirement Jim served as a math teacher at John Carroll High School in Ft. Pierce, Florida. After retirement, he continued to volunteer as a math tutor at St. John's River State College in Orange Park, Florida.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He worked hard, loved strong and lived life on his own terms. He spent his final days resting at the family camp in Readfield, Maine. There he was surrounded by his loved ones and celebrated his 80th birthday with them before he peacefully departed this world. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Linda, their 3 children Karin, Nikki and Bryce, 11 grandchildren, his sister Penny, a niece and nephew. The family is making final arrangements and plans to lay Jim to rest privately.
