

She was born in Portland, ME on March 25, 1931 a daughter of the late Alfred & Florence (Brume) Alward. She grew up in Portland attending local area schools and graduated from Portland High School and remained a Portland resident most of her life.
Joyce worked as a printer for Fairchild’s and Dow Check for many years before retiring.
When her children were younger she was also very active in the Cub and Boy Scouts, helping her son Jim to obtain Eagle Scout.
Joyce was a very social and helpful person and was a pillar within her neighborhood. She was also extremely dedicated to her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son James R. Powers of Windham, her daughter Susan Powers of Portland, her two grandchildren Adam and Heidi-Jo Powers both of Portland and her two great grandchildren Kyahana Powers and Kaylyn Coty. She also leaves her brother Arnold Alward and his wife Pauline of Scarborough and her two sisters Gloria Huffnagel and her husband Paul of Shreveport, VA and Beverly Worthly and her husband Russell of Virginia Beach, VA as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Donald Alward who died in 2012. She was also the ex-wife of the late Matthew Powers.
At Joyce’s request there will be no services.
