Kenneth P. Neptune Jr. age 47, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones at Maine Medical Center after a courageous battle with a long-term illness. He was born October 7, 1976 in Portland, Maine to Kenneth and Donna (Mimmovich) Neptune Sr.
Kenny grew up in Westbrook and loved sharing childhood memories of his younger days in Westbrook Gardens playing hockey, playing mischievous practical jokes and all the lifelong bonds that were made along the way. Kenny met the love of his life, Lisa soon after graduating high school in 1994 and it soon was known that you wouldn’t think of one without the other as they became inseparable. They started their family with the arrival of their first son, Justin in 1997 and then Jakob in 2004. They continued to build a life for their family they were so proud of. It was only natural when their daughter in law, Lizzi joined their family years later that their foursome became a family of 5. Kenny would say he had 3 kids when asked, always including Lizzi as his “daughter”.
Kenny worked for over 25 years as an extremely skilled floor installer and had the freedom to work for himself since 2017. He loved that he could help his family and friends with their own flooring projects; always making time to fit them into his busy work schedule. In 2020, the hard work paid off when Kenny and Lisa purchased their forever home in Gorham. This was one of his proudest accomplishments in life. When he wasn’t building his business, he spent his time doing what he loved most; playing disc golf, attending rock concerts or just relaxing at home with his family and beloved dogs, Rylee and Rose. He couldn’t wait to get to the disc golf course most days and was able to play courses from Maine to Vermont. He didn’t care where he played as long as it was with his crew of disc golf “brothers”. Kenny seemed happiest when he was rocking out to music and whether he was cranking up Guns N Roses or Pantera from his van or attending live shows with his wife, he loved that feeling the bass gave him often saying it made him feel alive. If you were able to attend a live show with Kenny, you knew the only spot to be was up front near the stage.
Kenny was a man of few words and there were few things in life he enjoyed as much as disc golf and rock music. But all that truly knew him understood how much he loved his family. He never turned down an opportunity to spend time with the people he loved most and having them all together meant everything to him. He typically avoided being the center of attention but he somehow always seemed to be the life of the party with his quick wit and ability to make people laugh. He always knew how to keep things lighthearted. Kenny will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Kenny is predeceased by his uncle John Neptune, uncle Michael Flaherty and nephew Shawn McKeough Jr. Kenny is survived by his longtime love of 30 years, Lisa Jarry; son, Justin Neptune and wife Elizabeth, son Jakob Neptune; parents, Kenneth and Donna Neptune; sister Lisa Hebert and husband Tom, brother Keith Neptune and partner Christy Blanchard Jordan; nephew Kyle Hebert, nephew Brayden Neptune and great niece Halo Lee; many aunts, uncles and cousins who all meant so much to him.
The family would like to thank all the cardiothoracic surgeons and nurses at Maine Medical Center and Mass General who cared for Kenny over the last 6 years. A special thank you to the medical team at MMC’s Neurocritical Care Unit who provided compassion and excellent care for him in his final days.
