

Auburn, ME – Lewis “Fred” Brown, 74, of Valview Dr. died Saturday morning, August 3, 2013, surrounded by his family at the Auburn Hospice House. He went to be with his wife of 47 years, Irene on their wedding anniversary.
Fred was born on March 20, 1939 in Auburn, ME a son of the late Carl F. and Myrtle E. (Abbott) Brown. He was educated in the Auburn School system.
Fred was an auto mechanic and sheet metal worker at various local businesses. He and his wife Irene also owned and operated Chicken City in New Auburn for several years until they retired in order to enjoy their grandchildren.
He was Trail Master for Mt. Apetite Snow Travelers for the majority of the seventies.
Fred’s love was the restoration and then driving of his 1931 Model A Pickup. He and his wife enjoyed mining for gems and minerals as well as doing ceramics. He was also considered “Our Social Butterfly” as he enjoyed going and visiting with family and friends; he always looked forward to Thursday night horseshoes with the boys.
Fred leaves behind his two sons Wally and his wife Kathy of Auburn and Carl and his longtime companion Trish of Minot. He also leaves his grandchildren Rick and Lauren Brown of Auburn, McCoy Brown of Vasselboro and Kaile and Keegan Leighton of Minot as well as a brother Gordon “Bucky” Brown of Auburn, a sister Carlene Pare and her husband Gerry of Poland, several nieces and nephews and his little dog Mandy.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date via Facebook, newspaper and telephone.
