Martha, known to most as Marty, was a native of Lynn, Ma. Graduate of Lynn English High School. She is daughter to Myrtie and Arthur Clay. Sister to Laurence Clay, Robert (Bud) Clay, Priscilla MacDonald and Suzanne Coombs.
Martha leaves three children: David Hersey Jr. (spouse Deborah) of Lymen, ME, Lisa Marie (Hersey) Mikkola (spouse Russell) of Monson, MA, and Diana Clay (Hersey) Carlisle (spouse Scott) of Antioch, CA.
She has 6 grandchildren: Jeremy, Aaron and Matthew Dube (stepchildren of David Jr.), Elijah and Emma Mikkola (children of Lisa Marie) and Clay Carlisle (child of Diana).
In 1989 Martha married Donald Smith and moved to San Jose, CA where she lived for 22 years. She graduated from Evergreen Valley College with an Associate’s degree in General Studies.
In 2010 Martha moved back to New England where she remained near family and friends. She died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of February 8, 2022.
