Maureen was born on June 6, 1949, in Jackman, Maine, the daughter of Jacques Maheu and Patricia (Pinette) Pomerleau. Her early years were spent enjoying outdoor activities including ice skating, skiing, and walking from Jackman to Long Pond to visit her grandparents. She loved singing and playing piano with friends, attending Friday night dances, and spending time in her mother’s beauty shop. Her childhood friends described Maureen as self-assured, sophisticated, and stylish.
Maureen graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Jackman and went on to attend St. Francis College—now the University of New England—as a member of the inaugural class of women admitted in 1967. She earned a bachelor’s degree in French in 1971.
Following her undergraduate studies, Maureen pursued a degree in radiography, and later achieved certification in nuclear medicine. She devoted her professional life to radiology at Maine Medical Center.
In 1984, Maureen married Norman Parrott. Together they raised their two children, Danielle and Karl, in South Portland’s Willard Beach neighborhood. They enjoyed shared traditions and simple pleasures—nights at Pizza Villa, Portland Pirates hockey games, concerts, travel, and enthusiastic support of their children’s school activities.
Maureen had a lifelong love of animals, especially cats, and shared her home with many feline companions over the years. Willow and Toby held particularly special places in her heart. After retiring, she volunteered at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, where she lovingly helped care for cats awaiting their forever homes.
An avid reader, Maureen was a familiar face at the South Portland Library. She found joy in gardening, neighborhood walks, trips to the movies, French culture, and music. She continued to play piano as an adult and was a devoted Beatles fan throughout her life. In recent years, she enjoyed attending Portland Symphony Orchestra performances.
A Mainer through and through, Maureen took great pride in her roots, particularly her connection to Jackman. She tended her home in every season—mowing, raking, and shoveling snow herself—until shortly before her move to assisted living, a testament to her independence and quiet strength. In true Mainer fashion, she was always ready for a cold beer and never missed an annual visit to Ken’s Place in Scarborough for fried clams.
Maureen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 27 years, Norman Parrott; her father, Jacques Maheu; and her mother, Patricia (Pinette) Pomerleau.
Maureen is survived by her daughter, Danielle Parrott and her husband, Tyler Cary of South Portland; her son, Karl Parrott of South Portland; and her brother, Robert Maheu and his wife, Kathy of Dover-Foxcroft. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at The Enclave of Scarborough and Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth for the exceptional compassion and care they provided to Maureen during the final years of her life.
A celebration of Maureen’s life will be held on March 14, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at North 43 Bistro, 1 Spring Point Drive, South Portland. Guests are invited to raise a glass and share memories in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen’s memory to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.
