Born in North Yarmouth on May 21, 1934, Muriel lived in North Yarmouth her entire life except for her years spent traveling with her husband, Clyde Smith. Their travel with the US Airforce took them from Caribou Maine to Tachikawa, Japan. While in Japan she gave birth to two boys, Clinton and Russell. Once their time in the Air Force was through, they came home to North Yarmouth where they built a house and lived there together until Clyde’s untimely death in 1990.
Muriel had two more children, Donna and Kevin and took in a foster son named Ray McGoon who became as much her own child as the ones she naturally birthed. Family was everything to Muriel. She took in other foster children and it didn’t matter if you were blood related or not, you were welcomed in her home. She was very loving and caring and you knew this the moment you entered her home.
Besides being a home maker, Muriel worked at The Pineland Center and Seaside Retirement home as a housekeeper for many years. Both jobs could be challenging at times due to the patients she worked with. She took on the challenges with a positive and caring attitude. As a result, the patients and staff all loved her and looked forward to her being there to help. Her selfless acts of kindness, great humor, beautiful smile, sense of nurturing, and most of all her endless supply of love will be truly missed.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 21,2022 at the North Yarmouth Cemetery (Rt 115, No. Yarmouth) at 11 AM followed by a light luncheon at the North Yarmouth Congregational Church.
