Known affectionately as Newt, he was born on 6/25/47 in Portland, Maine
Newt was raised in Westbrook, Maine by Newton Sr. & Grace Curtis. He grew up surrounded by the steady love of his parents and remained deeply close to them throughout his life.
Newt carried the values of his Maine upbringing with him wherever he went - kindness, hard work, loyalty and an appreciation for the simple things. One of the places he treasured most was the family camp, a spot filled with countless memories, laughter and peaceful moments. He was an avid reader and must have read thousands of books in the time he spent there. It was the place he felt happiest and most at home.
A gifted performer and dedicated volunteer, Newt spent decades involved with Lyric Theater in South Portland, Maine, a community that became an extension of his family. Whether appearing on stage or behind the scenes, he brought passion, humor and heart to every production in which he took part. His laugh was legendary.
Throughout his time at Lyric he formed many lifelong friendships and touched countless lives with his generous spirit and love of the arts.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported him and loved him throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Rosemary Curtis of Scarborough; his daughters, Melissa Campbell of Scarborough and Jennifer Miller of Portland; son-in-law, Andy Campbell of Scarborough; four beautiful granddaughters Emily Gage, Taylor Angelo, Drew Robinson and Zoie Campbell; two great-grand sons Cooper Gage and Grahm Angelo and one great-granddaughter Charlotte Gage. His siblings Stephen Curtis (Andrea) and Carolyn Taylor, adoring Sister-in-law Brenda Turner. As well as lots of nieces and nephews!
There will be a celebration of life on December 14 at 10 am at 108 Hillcrest avenue in Scarborough, Maine.
