Richard Scott Petri, 82, died after a sudden illness on May 15, 2022 in Portland, Maine. A longtime (53-year) resident of Hampton, New Hampshire, Richard was a graduate of Deering High School in Portland, Maine. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Suffolk University in Boston, where he began a long career in Industrial Sales, traveling all over New England.
Richard and his wife, Kay Manson Petri were high school sweethearts. They settled in Hampton, New Hampshire where they raised two children and made many lifelong friends. Richard retired early to care for Kay, who passed in 2012. After mourning her passing, Richard went back to the University of New Hampshire to learn how to become a Pet Groomer. He enjoyed a second career caring for animals, and also spent nine years working part-time at the Piscataqua Savings Bank with employees he regarded as family.
Richard enjoyed a six-year relationship with Lilly Lavoie-Sirois of Biddeford, Maine and mourned her death in 2022. Like his father, Richard was 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason and enjoyed learning the philosophy, history, ethics, and fundamental truths that guide Freemasons' lives. Dubbed “Mappy” by his eldest grandchild, Richard was involved in the lives of his grandchildren and proud of all of them. He is survived by his daughter Erika Petri and her husband Christopher Clegg of Portland, Maine, and his son Scott M. Petri and his wife Sheila of Los Angeles, California; five grandchildren, Miles, Clegg-Petri, Toby Clegg-Petri, K.C. Clegg Petri, Sarah Petri, and Samantha Petri.
Scott and Erika would like to acknowledge and thank Richard’s good, long-time friends who have been of great comfort to us. The Harrington and Beaulieu Families from Sicard St.,Wilton and Judy Jones, Christine Denham, John Deibert, and Paul Farrell.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held later this summer in Hampton, New Hampshire.
