Ronald Allen Perkins of Limington, Maine passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 22, 2022. Ronnie was born November 5, 1945 in Portland, Maine to Ivan and Barbara Perkins. He attended South Portland and Cape Elizabeth schools where he excelled in sports. Ron had an exceptional mechanical mind. In one instance, this was evidenced by his creating a specialized tool for his employer. Ron inherited the “salesman gene” from his dad. These and other skills served him well in his years selling cars at Duck Pond Auto, his business located in Westbrook Maine.
Ron was the proverbial kid that never grew up. His love for people, animals and adventure made life unpredictable and fun, Whenever you would visit Ron, you might be greeted by his latest “adoption” of Bucky the ferret or maybe a rambuntious raccoon. You might see his latest acquisition of a DeLorean, a ‘63 split window red corvette, or have a ride in his beloved ‘35 Plymouth. If Ron’s personality wasn’t enough entertainment on its own, you could take a swim in the pool, or take his challenge to grab the roof beam in the barn while jumping on the trampoline. One of his most crazy antics was water skiing on open water in the middle of winter behind a ski-doo on Sebago Lake. His life was not only “his” adventure, but he would take along as many friends and family as his arms could hold.
Ron was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of thirteen. When his daughter Tammy was diagnosed with the disease at the same age this stirred a new purpose in his life. He lead the fight against this ravaging disease as president of the Maine Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Association which declared the 1990’s as the decade of the cure.
Ron had a fierce love for his family. You could count on him to be the first to love, forgive or defend. Anyone who knew Ron, knew of his love for God and his church. He brought his same enthusiasm to every area in which he served. He had great camaraderie working with the men’s softball team and leading the young adults ministry. He was a guide and example to many of the teenagers he mentored in the Caravan group. One of his greatest joys was music and singing. He often sang with his Mom and sister, Candi. He used any opportunity to uplift others by lifting up his voice in song in encouragement and hope.
Ron is survived by his wife Linda Perkins of 41 years, his daughters Stacey Case of Limington, Me. and Tammy Lavigne of Windham, Me; son Ronald Perkins Jr. of California, daughter Kim Giangrande of Connecticut; also seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his brother Dick Perkins of Cocoa Florida, two sisters, Sandy Perkins of Sarasota, Florida and Candi Bertran of Buxton, Maine.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday September 3, 2022 at 11:00 at the Windham Church of the Nazarene, 823 Gray Rd, Windham, Maine.
