Ruth was born in Portland , relocated to Presque Isle, returning to Southern Maine in the early 1990's. Upon relocating to Portland, Ruth began receiving supports from PSL Services, where she was known by her many friends there as a passionate, outgoing, tough, independent woman.
Ruth's leadership skills often were on display, affectionately earning her the nickname "General Ruth". Throughout her time with PSL, Ruth wore many hats- both literally, with her love for collecting baseball caps, and figuratively, by serving in many roles within the organization.
Ruth served as an officer on the Consumer Board, as a chartering member of the Aktion Club, as a cook in the Drop-in Center, and was especially fond of her role as Mrs. Claus during the annual Christmas Party.
Ruth was a self-advocate, and always the first to introduce herself to guests, offer to volunteer, and offer her thoughts on any situation. She loved spending time with friends, especially going out to breakfast or lunch. Her stories are as legendary as her potato salad, and her laughter was contagious. She will be missed by all who had the good fortune to have met her.
A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at STRIVE, 28 Foden Road, South Portland, on Friday, September 7 at 10:30 a.m.
Arrangements are under the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 981 Forest Ave, Portland. Please visit www. advantageportland.com to sign Ruth guestbook.
