

He was born March 28, 1949 in Portland, the son of Rocco and Annacleta (Germani) DeCarolis.
Vince was a graduate of the University of Southern Maine, class of 1971 and received a BA Degree with high distinction in English; later he received a Master’s Degree from Goddard College.
He taught English courses at the University of Southern Maine
Vincent devoted his life to teaching and writing fiction. He wrote novels, short stories, and poems, and several of his poems and stories were published. His lifelong scholarly interests centered mostly on William Blake, James Joyce, and C.G. Jung. He had many interests, including sailing in his younger days, and built two sailboats. He also enjoyed astronomy and built his own telescope. Music was a big part of Vince's life. He loved the music of the Baroque era, and particularly loved Bach Cantatas. He also was fond of music from the Big Band Era, and enjoyed classic jazz, folk, and popular music of the 30's 40's, 50's,and 60's. He was an excellent photographer, and he and Margaret spent many happy hours walking along the Royal River, and at the Scarborough Marsh, photographing birds. Vince was also an excellent carpenter, and helped to build two of their houses, and he completely renovated a third. He was a talented and creative painter, and their home is filled with his art. He had a keen sense of humor, and loved sharing his jokes and puns with friends. Vincent was a devoted and loving husband, and will be deeply missed by his wife.
Vince is survived by his wife of 38 years, Margaret Ostrander, his brother, Richard DeCarolis, his sister-in-law Karen DeCarolis, his wife’s sister Maurine Hannaford, niece Emily DeCarolis, a cousin, Peter Morelli and his wife Jan.
At his request, there will be no services.
