

Bette Marie Braswell Auld, 85, of Raleigh, NC peacefully passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014. She was born October 19, 1928 in Wilmington, NC to Russell L. Braswell and Thelma Mae Ellers. Bette lived in Nags Head, Wilson and Laurinburg where she graduated high school. She attended Wake Forest College for 2 years where she was on the WF cheerleading squad and met William C. “Whitey” Auld, the love of her life. Bette then went on to Baptist Hospital to become a registered nurse.
Bette had a tremendous love of people, places, plants and animals and was known for her quick wit and enthusiasm for all things she engaged in. In her profession, she cared for both the newborn and the dying, with equal love and compassion. She was most happy when surrounded by her family at the family’s Carolina Beach cottage.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William C. Auld, Sr; children William C. Auld, Jr and wife Judy, Martha Anne Auld, Mary Beth Auld; grandchildren Dr. Corinth A. Auld and partner Steve Hazlip, Mary Erin Jennings, JD, and husband Vance; great grandchildren Riley and Macie Jennings; nieces Becky Coward and Anna Jane Knight; and scores of beloved cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Raleigh Memorial Park in the Mausoleum Chapel. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M.
