Bobby grew up along with seven siblings. His father was the local blacksmith and his mother a homemaker. He met Annie Pearl Brantley when they were in elementary school. The two would soon become highschool sweethearts and each other's life. Married on August 4th, 1951, they would spend 56 years together until Annie Pearl’s passing on February 21, 2008.
Bobby served in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953 as a corporal. During this time, he visited Triest, Italy, Yugoslavia, Austria, Germany, Africa, Greece, New Zealand, and Spain. From these places came several stories such as a sailboat debacle and skiing which landed him in a lake.
Bobby had worked at the Spring Hope pharmacy, the Railroad while living in Durham, and enjoyed his free time at a local pool hall where he was occasionally known as a “pool shark”. Ultimately, he began his career at Dillon Supply Company as a bookkeeper.
Through his hard work and dedication, Bobby retired in 1998 as the Executive Vice President. Bobby treasured his relationships with those he worked with and still enjoyed talking about his times at Dillon Supply Company. His career there meant the world to him. After retirement, he served two terms as the town commissioner of Spring Hope. Bobby enjoyed his retirement gardening, keeping up with financial news, and watching old westerns, UNC football and basketball games.
Above all, Bobby was a family man. He would do anything for his wife, daughter, and granddaughter time and time again. He was the most selfless man we knew, never asking for anything, but was always giving. His true joy was making sure that we were cared for. A few of his last words included asking if we needed anything. That was the true nature of Bobby Brantley.
He is predeceased by his wife, Annie Pearl Brantley; sister, Phariah Brantley; brother, Quinton Brantley; sister, Sarah Brantley; brother, Warren Brantley; and sister, Evelyn Gay.
He is survived by his daughter, Melanie Kay Brantley of Spring Hope, NC; granddaughter, Laura Kay Brantley Tart of Wendell, NC; brother, Charles Brantley (Jo) of Raleigh, NC; sister, Mary Leigh Powell (Warner) of Willow Spring, NC; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bobby is survived by two nephews and one niece who were very dear to his heart; Horace Snyder of Texas, Tim Snyder of Colorado, and Suzette Snyder of Sylva, NC.
Mr. Brantley, Bobby, “Daddy”, and “Grandaddy” listened to plenty of Alabama and Creedence Clearwater Revival during his venture out of this world. We like to think of Bobby now with 20/20 vision, riding a well maintained John Deere mower with Annie Pearl watching from the patio.
Bobby will be laid to rest beside his wife during a private committal in Spring Hope, NC.
