

Charles Robert “Bob” Long, Jr., 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Wake Med Raleigh. Bob was born on December 20, 1929 in Richmond VA to Charles Robert Long and Kathleen Peay Long. He served in the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) as a Presidential Honor Guard and a Guard at the Unknown Soldiers Tomb from 1952 to 1954. Bob was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved showing off his girls and celebrated life to the fullest. His smile lit up the room and he never met a stranger. He was known for his beautiful blue eyes. He loved vacationing at the beach with his family and friends. Bob loved playing and watching sports. He was an avid baseball player and golfer and was a season ticket holder for both the IceCaps and the Hurricanes. Bob was employed with Seaboard-Kraft foods.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joan Craig Long; daughters: Debbie Long Lamm of Morrisville, Cindy Long Cunningham of Wake Forest, Pamela Long Burns and husband, Charles of Apollo Beach, FL, and Robin Long Powers and husband, Jimmy of Raleigh; grandchildren: Brad Peacock and wife, Kristie, Ryan Peacock, Blake Peacock; Taylor Cunningham, Brooks Cunningham; Chaz Burns and wife Lindsey, Lindsey Burns, Lauren Burns; Braxton Powers, Barrett Powers; great grandchildren: Hayden Peacock, Grayson Peacock, Anna Peacock, Emmy Burns.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road, Raleigh.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Raleigh at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium with Military Honors.
