David, I read about you in the newspaper. I wish that I could have met you! Once an adorable, beautiful baby boy, you turned into a handsome young man. You left those that knew you, and others that read about you, touched by the miracle that only your grace could have created! Heaven and Earth cried shortly after your birth, but both have thrived and flourished magnificently, nourished by your zest for life and your glorious smile! Go now, as you must, to be with God, all the angels and the wonders of this Universe! You were loved by so many here on Earth.

When Lori Stuart talked about her son David, it was immediately clear he was special, loving and brought much joy to his family. This level of love and respect gave me, as a special education teacher, a new lens to care about the special needs children I teach. The clarity of the importance of seeing the personality of special needs students was brought to a new level for me and Lori Stuart and her son David helped make that happen. My sympathies to the family for losing this little boy full of joy!

I wanted to tell you both in person, but I didn’t want to cry during David’s celebration. David was one of the first players that I met as a Field Staff my first season. I was intimidated and anxious because I had only ever worked with children with autism. After talking for a minute and getting stuck about what to say next, I laughed and told him, “I’m sorry dude, I’ll figure this out. It’s great to meet you.” He smiled and everything immediately felt right again. I’ll always remember the way he could make a tough moment better without saying a word.
