

Dewey Frederick Weir, Jr. passed away peacefully on December 5th, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was born on October 21, 1939 in Wilmington, North Carolina to Lillie Mae and Dewey F. Weir, Sr.
He graduated from Topsail High School in Hampstead, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill earning a degree in Business Administration and Accounting.
Following graduation, Fred earned designation as a Certified Public Accountant and accepted an Accountant position with A.M. Pullen in Raleigh, N.C. where he made Partner. He also served in the United States Army Reserve.
Fred would eventually move to Southern National Bank in the Corporate Tax Department in Lumberton, North Carolina. Southern National then moved their headquarters to Winston Salem, N.C. and eventually merged with BB&T. Fred would stay in Winston Salem working with BB&T until he retired in 2005 and moved back to Raleigh, N.C.
Fred married Mamie Kirk Eubank in 1962 at Scotts Hill, N.C. Fred and Mamie enjoyed 32 years of marriage until Mamie passed in 1994.
Fred married Deborah Jean Brown on September 16, 2006. Deborah would be his bride for the rest of his life enjoying 19 years of marriage while residing in Raleigh, N.C. Fred was married a total of 51 years to two wonderful ladies. He was truly lucky.
Fred constantly served his family and community. Whether it was driving the family boat for water skiing, serving as head coach of his son’s little league basketball team, being selected Volunteer of the Year for Athens Drive High School in Raleigh, Ball Room Dancing with Deborah; he lived life to the fullest.
Fred will always be known as a Tarheel. He was an UNC season ticket holder for both Basketball and Football, and was a member of the Rams Club for 55+ years. He, and each of his brides, were fortunate enough to see, in person, UNC win two National Championships, 1982 and 2009.
Fred is survived by his loving wife Deborah Brown Weir, his two children David (Joan) Weir, Martha (Phillip) Williams, his two step-children Julie (Jeff) Dickerson and Samantha (Jeff) Wilson. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren and step grandchildren: Elizabeth Medina, Scott Williams, Sarah Domalavage, Zane Weir, Todd Ellis, Andy Ellis, Joshua Dawkins, Jenna Jones, Connor Kirby, Caleb Kirby, Michael Whitlow and Thomas Whitlow and five great grandchildren.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Mae Weir, Dewey F. Weir, Sr., his sisters Lillian Ives and Jean Smith, his first wife Mamie Weir, and his step-daughter Georgia Ellis.
A service remembering Fred will be held at the Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church in the main Sanctuary, in Scotts Hill, N.C., on December 16, 2025 at 1:00 PM. The address is 10255 US Highway 17, Wilmington, N.C. 28411. A reception will be held at the Church following the service.
