Diane was born in Catonsville, Maryland on September 13, 1935, to John and Lois Hynes. Her family eventually moved to Hatboro, PA, where Diane finished school. Following school, she began her professional career as an office administrator in the real estate field and became lead majorette for the Philadelphia Eagles. In 1973 Diane relocated to North Carolina where she established Container Systems Incorporated with her son Scott Parsons. Diane and Scott sold CSI to Universal Forest Products Incorporated in 2014.
From childhood, Diane participated in competitive sports though offshore sport fishing became her truest passion. From their Sears john boat, Diane and Scott agreed that if they could ever catch a blue marlin they would stand on the bow of the boat and yell “Oh lucky me!”. Their boats grew in size, and Diane enjoyed participating in billfish tournaments for more than 30 years, many of them on her boat O Lucky Me.
