Donald Hughes Grider

Donald Hughes Grider, 96, of Raleigh, NC passed away on March 28, after a brief visit with Transitions LifeCare Hospice. Donald was born in Pollard, Arkansas on April 19, 1924 to the late Louie Beecher Grider and Marguerite Grider.

Donald worked in sales with International Harvester for over 40 years after being discharged from the Army in 1946. Donald is a member of Shriners International and a life member of A&A Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, S.J. U.S.A. Donald enjoyed his Holiday Rambler (motorhome), traveling around the USA after retirement with Margaret. He had a keen interest in many hobbies, including needlepoint. Don could talk endlessly about the honor flight he took to D.C. and the royal treatment the veterans received.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; and son, T. Michael McLarry of Raleigh.

Donald is survived by his wife, Margaret Rush Grider; son, Donald Douglas Grider of Baltimore, MD; grandsons, Jason Dowell McLarry (Courtney) of Atlanta, GA, Ryan Wakefield McLarry (Jeannie) of Plano, TX; granddaughters, Kristen McLarry McGowan (Brad) of Raleigh, NC, Amber Grider of Baltimore, MD; great grandsons, William Michael McLarry, Thomas Michael McGowan, Theodore Wakefield McLarry, Samuel Ryan McLarry; great granddaughters, Katherine Grace McLarry, and Ava Rose McLarry; and Daughter in law, Louise C. McLarry of Raleigh.

A visitation shall be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd, Raleigh, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 31, followed by graveside services with military honors at Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh.

The celebration of life will be held at Hayes Barton Baptist Church at a time to be determined and announced by the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Transitions LifeCare Hospice Raleigh, Hayes Barton Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
