Douglas Arnold Jones “Fatback”, 47, of Zebulon NC, passed away on Saturday evening November 12, 2011 after suffering a massive heart attack at home. Visitation will begin at 12:30 with funeral service to follow at 1:30 pm on Friday, November 18, 2011. Service will be officiated by Pastor Brian Merritt at Richland Community Church in Wake Forest, followed by a Patriot Guard Riders escort and burial at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.
Doug was born into this world on January 28, 1964, son of Bobby R. Jones and his beloved mother, the late Elaine Jones. Doug attended Millbrook High School and was a member of the FFA. Doug owned and operated AAA Heating and Cooling in Wake County.
“Fatback” enjoyed many outdoor activities but his favorite activity which he turned into a deep passion was his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Fatback rode not just for personal enjoyment, but he rode for many causes. He joined the Patriot Guard Riders in 2006 and rode thousands of miles in support of our Fallen Heroes and their families. Doug was larger than life and lived his life that way. He was fiercely protective of his family and his friends and would drop everything to help anyone in need. He was rough and seriously unpolished but his passion for life, his family, our Veterans and his friends is what drove him. Fatback was well known among his friends and the community for his FATBACK's BBQ sauce and smoked many pigs for non-profit organizations, military foundations and families, Toys for Tots and the Hope for the Warriors, Inc. Doug’s love of life, his children and wife, his family and friends and most importantly his love for God and Jesus were most evident in these last few weeks of his life. He was in the process of becoming a member of the Richland Creek Riders Ministry after rededicating his life to Christ on October 23, 2011 and to serving in whatever capacity God saw fit.
Doug is survived by his wife Karen of 14 years, his daughters Emily and Hannah of the home, and Kristin of Texas. Also surviving is his brother Dwight Jones, sister in law Pam Jones, nephew and niece, Brandon and Brittany Jones, and his granddaughter Amber all of Wake County. “Fatback” never knew a stranger and leaves behind many friends, compatriots and compadres who will miss him dearly. Doug has left this earthly world but has entered the Kingdom of Heaven kneeling at the hand of Jesus, rejoicing with his friends who have gone before him, his beloved mother, and the many Veterans he stood for over the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made for Doug’s children, c/o Karen Jones- P.O. Box 1352, Zebulon NC 27597.
