I rented a room from Leeroy Grice from 1981 till 1982 while I attended NCSU. He was a good guy, and I have pleasant memories of him.

I am so glad we reconnected back in Novemeber. We had dinner and I spent the night! I am so grateful I moved in next door to Lee Grice you showed me there are good people in this world and it was an honor to be your friend, until we meet again my friend!

I will never forget the times that he would take Clarke and I night fishing in the little boat at falls lake. We had great times doing that. Such a great man, father and father figure. I still pass by the old house at Nana’s from time to time and he’s always a remembrance of that. Rest easy, “old man” (as Clarke and I would call him) you will be missed. So glad that I got to be a small part of his journey at such a young age. He never forgot my name in all the years, and gaps, of time.

I was so fond of Lee. I referred to him as my Sweet T Lee. We enjoyed spending Christmas with the Grice family for many years. He will be sorrowfully missed. He was a good ole southern boy with an attitude to match. Had a way of calling me darlin that I can still hear. God Bless you my dear friend, until we meet again. Love Cathy

I knew Lee in the teen years mostly from growing up in the Bay Leaf area all our lives. The first memory that comes to mind is heading in to Raleigh on any given night to go to Five Points to hang out and shoot pool and have a few cool ones. As we would hit Six Forks Rd. Lee with all that hair fresh out of the shower would have his head out the window drying his hair. And on the 8 track wide open would be listening to Deep Purple and the song Highway Star. Hearing this song has always made me think of Leroy. In his honor when I heard of this loss I played this song LOUD. To the family I am sorry for your loss.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Lee at the NCDOT for several years before switching careers. During that time, we made countless trips to the NC Coast, where we'd troll for Spanish Mackerel or fish for flounder, or whatever were biting. It didn't matter with Lee-- we always came away with a story, whether or not we caught any fish. Once on a coastal day trip, one of the men aboard Lee's boat lost his hat in the stiff wind. Ignoring requests to turn back, Lee allowed that hat to sink. It was a Duke hat after all, and Lee was a Tar Heel through and through. I'm going to miss my friend.

Small world, Lee used to work in the tobacco fields for my grandpa Haskins in the 1960's. Our families had known each other for many, many years. Fast Forward to the early 90's, and Lee moved into the house at the top of Keystone Dr. My parent, Cliff and Martha Haskins, have been neighbors of Lee ’s ever since. This past year, my husband and I moved around the corner from him, and every time I walked past Lee’s house to go visit my parents, he would stop me and we’d talk a little. He was always the nicest man, and I’d go as far as say the unofficial ambassador of the neighborhood. He will be missed, and I sorry for your loss. May God grant you and your family peace during this time of sorrow. May peace be with you.
