Dr. Edward Dewitt Gurley, retired Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at North Carolina State University passed away January 14, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born in Wadesboro, North Carolina October, 1930.
Edward was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Boxer during the Korean War. He is preceded in death by his devoted wife Sarah Millicent Gurley and daughter Melissa Gurley Weddington. Edward is survived by his daughter Melinda Gurley Rohrbach, two son-in- laws, six grandchildren and one great grandson.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609. The family will receive friends following the service. After the visitation, there will be a graveside service at 3:00 p.m.at Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27601.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice of Wake County.
