DR. Neunzig received his PhD from Cornell University in 1957. After earning his BS (1953) and an MS (1955) from Cornell. After graduation, Herb joined the entomology Department at NC State as an assistant Professor of Entomology then becoming a full Professor in 1965.
Having retired from State after 35 years, Herb continued his research and association with the WEDGE Entomological Research Foundation, publishing four fascicles and naming many new insect species which he discovered and identified.
Herb was born on Long Island, NY, May 11, 1927. He was the son of Henry Edward Neunzig and Elsie (Schwinn) Neunzig. DR. Neunzig is survived by his wife of 69 years, Carolyn (Miller) Neunzig, his son Kurt Miller Neunzig and his late son Keith Weidler Neunzig.
He is pre-deceased by his 2 sisters Ruth Neunzig Brecht and Dr. Winifred Neunzig.
He is also survived by three nieces and three nephews.
