

Dr. Hugh Earl Brooks of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away suddenly on December 12, 2014 at the age of 89. Born in Castle Hill, Maine, he was one of three children to Simon and Bessie Brooks. After serving in the United State Marine Corp during WWII, Hugh attended Boston University and Merrimack College where he received his B.A. in Business. He later received his Masters and Ph.D. from Catholic University in Washington D.C. He married his beautiful bride, Anne McCushing of Keene New Hampshire in 1952. During their 58 years of marriage, Anne and Hugh raised a family of six children. Hugh's profession provided them the opportunity to live in ten states from Massachusetts to California. The family moved to Raleigh, NC in 1978 and later Hugh and Anne became founding members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Hugh and Anne spent the first fifteen years of their retirement in Wilmington, NC and returned to Raleigh in 2004 where he continued to be active in the lives of their children, fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Hugh also donated much of his time as a volunteer at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Raleigh, NC.
Hugh is survived by his children Hugh A. Brooks, Anne Marie Summers, Brian Brooks, Mary Lee Edmonds, Betsy Janes, and Christopher Brooks.
A Mass of Resurrection celebrating his life will be held at 11 AM in St. Mary of the Angels Chapel at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 11401 Leesville Rd, Raleigh, NC 27613.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh, 7200 Stonehenge Drive, Raleigh, NC 27613.
