Julia Fleming Roper, 90, of Raleigh transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Magnolia Glen with her beloved family by her side. Julia native to Marion, NC, was born on March 15, 1931 to the late Thomas John Fleming and Annie McDaniel Fleming.
Julia is preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Arthur Ray Roper; her siblings Evelyn Atkins, Margaret Fiala, Thomas Fleming, Paul Fleming, Robert Fleming, Joe Fleming and David Fleming.
Julia’s career was as a social worker in Catawba County NC dedicating herself to helping abused children. As a result, she helped save and transform many young lives. She served as President of many local organizations in Hickory NC. After retirement Julia relocated from Hickory NC to Raleigh NC be near her grandchildren.
Affectionately known by her family as Nanny, Julia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Matt and Lauren. She was an avid reader. Julia also wrote several genealogical books including one on the Fleming Family. She was the rock of her family and made everyone feel special and loved. She enjoyed fellowshipping with her friends from North Raleigh United Methodist Church and Joy Generation. Julia was well known for her humor and dry wit.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Susan Roper Boggio and her husband, Dan of Houston, TX; her son, Wayne Roper and his wife, Sue of Raleigh, NC; grandson, Matthew Roper and his wife, Kelsey of Apex, NC; granddaughter, Lauren Roper of Raleigh, NC; great grandson, Brock Alec Roper and soon to be born, great grandson, Brody Art Roper.
Julia's family will be receiving guests for a casual gathering from 1:00pm - 3:00pm on Saturday, February 5, 2021 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd. Raleigh, NC 27609. At a later date, there will be a small family service and Interment at Arlington National Cemetery where Julia’s husband is buried.
