Lanxter (Lang) McCullen Burrell was born to the late Richard Lee Burrell of Louisburg, NC (later Queens, NY) and Beatrice Williams of Long Branch, NJ on January 24, 1944 in New York, NY . He passed away peacefully on March 9, 2018 in Raleigh, NC. He grew up in Harlem, NY where he graduated from high school in 1962, upon which he entered the Army. He served on active duty during the Vietnam conflict and obtained the rank of Sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard Lee Burrell, his brother Randolph Burrell, and his sister Denise Kramer. He is survived by his beloved mother Beatrice who is 99 years old; sisters Shirley Neeley and son, Sarah Safford, spouse and children, Florence Burrell and children; brother Waymond McEwen; his children Debbie Hooten and spouse, Mariah Matheson and spouse, Katherine Burrell, Lanxter M. Burrell, Jr., Japhia Burrell, Lydia Burrell, Rachel Turnage and spouse, Kelita Burrell, and Richard Lee Burrell II; and his grandchildren Tamyko Green, Jackson Burrell, Melia Burrell, Lynda Williams, Kaleigh Burrell, Parker Leach, and Eliza Matheson.
Lanxter Burrell was a fun loving storyteller with a good sense of humor. He enjoyed watching movies and discussing theology. He will be remembered for his boisterous laughter, booming voice, giving nature, dedicated service to his country during a foreign war, and love for his family. He will be interred in the National Veterans Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina after a private family viewing at Brown-Wynne funeral home.
