May 21, 1932 - December 25, 2016
Lewis Kaye, 84 of Raleigh, passed away suddenly on December 25th.
Lewis's passions involved golf, fishing, reading, music, spending time with his children, cooking, his beloved dogs, traveling with friends and family, investing and following Duke sports. Lewis was known to his friends as enjoying a good joke, living an iconoclastic life, and living simply. People commented that "he was one of the good guys." In his later years, he enjoyed watching movies.
He is survived by his children, Wendy Massey (David), Tammy Brandt (Mark) David Kaye (Erika), and sister, Vivian Adler (Barry) and 10 grandchildren. Lewis was born in Port Chester, NY and fell in love with NC when he attended Duke University, where he graduated in 1954. He then moved back to New York to work in his family's business, Liberty Music Shops, only to return to Raleigh where he attended horticulture school at NCSU in 1961. He decided to make NC his permanent home as he loved the weather, people, and the southern way of life. He later opened a business selling 2 way radios and then selling telephone answering systems as a pioneer in the field. He ran his own business until retiring in the late 1980s.
Per his wishes, a private service will be held for the family.
