Mrs. Lucille Barker

Lucille had lived in Raleigh since her birth on April 29, 1927. In 2006 she and her husband made their home at Wrightsville Beach, where they could live near their son and his family.

Surviving is one beloved son, Phil Barker and his dear wife, Jennie, along with two adored granddaughters, McKenzie and Ann McBryde Barker. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Carol B. Millard Hanna and husband Bill of Pinehurst, Edith B. Watkins and husband, Roger of Little River, S.C., Kaye Barker of Edenton, and Faye Barker of Raleigh and brother-in-law Joe Coley of Fuquay Varina, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lucille was preceded in death by her devoted Husband, Ray, of 60 years., her mother, Mary Southall and father, Edward Southall, sisters-in-law Marie B. Yow, Doris B. Southall and husband , John and Judith B. Coley, brothers-in-law William E. Barker, Robert L. Barker and Willard L. Barker and one special aunt, Mary Allen.

She is a graduate of Hugh Morson High School and Peace College. She retired in 1981 with 35 years of service from Southern Bell where she was an Administrative Assistant. Lucille was a dedicated member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she had been since youth until she her move to Wrightsville Beach. She taught in Nursery Department for many years and served as an office volunteer and as a Greeter. She will be remembered by many as a gracious, loving and caring lady who loved her family, church and friends.

The family would like to express thanks to her wonderful caregivers, especially Barbara Grady and to the First Baptist Church of Wilmington, and Dr. Jim Everette for their care and compassion.

A celebration of Lucille’s life will be held Monday, July 22, 2013 at 2:00pm at New Hope Baptist Church, 4301 Louisburg Rd., Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:45pm to 1:45pm prior to the funeral service. Entombment will follow at the Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum.
