

She was the daughter of the late William Henry Whitley and Hilda Mae Stevens Whitley of Wilson, NC. She is survived by her husband, Joseph D. (“Jody”) Joyner, Jr., a daughter Sarah Lynn Davis and her husband Quinn of Charlotte, NC, sons Joseph A. Joyner and David L. Joyner, of Raleigh, NC, a brother John S. Whitley and his wife Patti of Wilmington, NC, a sister Paige Whitley Walker and her husband John of Hickory, NC, a sister-in-law Sue Joyner Tisdale and her husband Ed of Myrtle Beach, SC, and several nieces and nephews.
Lynn was a native of Wilson, NC, and graduated from Fike High School. She graduated magna cum laude with a degree in history from Meredith College, where she played tennis and participated in other school activities, and graduated with a Masters of Science in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After her graduation from UNC, Lynn worked as a librarian for several years at the public library in Henderson, NC, until she left to stay at home as a full time mother and homemaker. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Raleigh for over 25 years, had participated several years in Bible Study Fellowship, and more recently had been active in Community Bible Study for several years. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed playing tennis, attending Bible study sessions, and spending time at Topsail Island.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2. The family will receive visitors at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, August 1. Private interment will be at the columbarium at Trinity Baptist Church.
