

Margaret Elizabeth Burke Elliott passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016. Margaret was born in LaGrange, NC, and was the oldest daughter of Edward Ronald Burke and Leila Cobb Bryan Burke. After graduating high school, she attended East Carolina College, formerly known as ECTC. She then moved to Raleigh in 1937 and attended Hardbargers Business School. She worked for the NC Department of Motor Vehicles for 25 years, retiring in 1978.
Margaret met and married Thomas Harold Elliott, Sr. in 1939. During their 52 years of marriage, they raised three sons. Margaret has five grandchildren, five great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
Margaret joined Temple Baptist Church in 1949. Throughout her years at Temple, she served in many areas including Sunday school, Mission Friends, Triple "S" and volunteering as a reader for Temple Day School.
Margaret loved to travel, just say the word "Go" and she was ready. She especially loved the beach. Margaret said the sand and water really revived her spirit. Her husband affectionately called her his 'Ramblin Rose'. She loved her Lord, family, church family and her many other friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Harold Elliott, Sr.; her sisters, Alice Donaldson, Ann Herrmann, Gaye Wray; and her son, Ronald Lee Elliott.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Tommy) Harold Elliott, Jr., and wife, Barbara, and Kenneth Ray Elliott and wife, Betty; daughter-in-law, Edith Elliott; granddaughters, Vickie Klapchar and husband, Brian, and April Mills and husband, Kevin; grandsons, Lee, Kevin and David Elliott; great grandsons, Kyle, Cameron, and Carson Elliott, Matthew and Christopher Klapchar; and great granddaughters, Allison and Taylor Mills; nephews, Edgar and Bobby Norvel; and other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Temple Baptist Church, 1417 Clifton Street, Raleigh, NC 27604. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
