Margaret was born on October 18, 1938 in Clarksdale, MS to Edward and Hollis Manning. On June 20, 1957 she married her soulmate and life partner Frederick Lee Morgan in Lyon, MS. They raised two sons, Frederick Allan Morgan and Mark Austin Morgan.
Margaret was a gifted writer and poet and shared her faith in Christ through both her writing and her humanitarian work. She loved spending time in the NC mountains at their home “Higher Ground” where she shared her love of nature and hiking the Roan Mountain “Balds” with her granddaughters Anna and Sarah Morgan. She also loved spending time with her daughter-in-law Lane Morgan exploring the small craft vendors and potters in the high -country mountains. Her infectious laugh and sense of humor is a big part of her legacy with her friends and family along with her deep personal faith in her savior Jesus Christ.
Margaret retired as the director of volunteer services at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, NC where she and Fred lived for many years. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro and served in many capacities in the church and community overall. After retirement, Margaret and Fred moved to High Point, NC where they became involved with their church and in the community. She and her husband Fred had a final move to Raleigh, NC after her diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease and Fred’s overall health began to deteriorate to be close to their son Allan and daughter-in-law Lane and granddaughters Anna and Sarah all in Raleigh, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick Lee Morgan and son Mark Austin Morgan. She is survived by her son, Allan and his wife Lane and granddaughters Anna and Sarah Morgan plus a niece, Katherine Wingate of Dayton, Ohio and two nephews, Sloan Manning and Bill Manning of High Point, NC.
Per Margaret’s request, there will be a private memorial service with the immediate family in Goldsboro, NC where her ashes will be placed next to her husbands at the columbarium at the First Presbyterian Church. The family wants to give heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers at Sunrise at North Hills memory care unit for their loving support and care of Margaret over the past four years.
