Reverend Murry Lee DeHart, Jr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 25, 2018. He was born in Flat Rock, NC, near Mount Airy to the late Murry Lee DeHart, Sr. and Ellen Webster DeHart.
Reverend DeHart attended Wake Forest University and Wake Forest Seminary. While at Wake Forest he was on the wrestling team and loved Shorty’s Hot Dogs. He was a Chaplain in the Naval Reserve. During that time he met his first wife, Joan Anderson. They had three sons.
After graduation he began serving the United Methodist Conference of Eastern NC. He lived in more than ten towns in Eastern NC, serving his congregation and Jesus. He had many interests. He was an Eagle Scout and ensured that each of his sons attained that rank as well. He loved attending sporting events with his sons and grandchildren, especially anything pertaining to Wake Forest University. He also loved westerns and watching movies with his family.
He met and married the late Rose Lambert DeHart in the late 1970s, who proceeded him to heaven in May 2017 after 40 years of marriage. Murry and Rose loved to travel together, especially on cruises.
Reverend DeHart is survived by his sons; Murry Lee DeHart, III (Sandra), David DeHart (Rita), and Jon DeHart (Karen); step-sons, Larry Rushin (Annette) and Donald Rushin; grandchildren Aslyn DeHart, Gracie, Gabby, Olivia DeHart, Steve Rushin, Rick Rushin and Kristina Rushin.
Visitation will be held at 7:00pm Wednesday, June 27, 2018 with a funeral service at 3:00 pm Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E Millbrook rd, Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St, Oxford, NC 27565.
